The University of Qld Powerlifting and Weightlifting Club (UQPWC) is a University of Queensland UQ Sport Recreational Club.

Founded over 20 years ago, the club has a goal to provide high quality training facilities and coaching in powerliftng and weightlifting*.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP is open to novice and experienced athletes. Students and the general public who are interested in keeping fit, getting stronger and those wanting to train and compete in powerlifting can join the club. (Powerlifting consists of three events: squat, deadlift and benchpress). Qualified coaches at the club write customised training programs and provide instruction. The club also organises lifting and bench press competitions and events.

EQUIPMENT The club gym is fitted with olympic weights and bars, ER Racks, dumbbells, lifting platforms, power rack, glute ham raise machine, reverse hyper extension machine and other strength-training equipment.

EVENTS The club runs a number of competitions or powerlifting meets throughout the year. Can you bench press? Come and join Bench-A-Rama Bench Press Competitions are held from time to time and will be advertised on this web site.

2011 Qld Open It was big - yes I'm talking about the 2011 Qld Open Powerlifting and Bench Press Competition held on Sunday 27 March 2011 at Fitness First, Jindalee. Over 20 competitors entered the competition. Click here for photos and results

2011 SE Challenge Bench Press and Powerlifting Competition, Brisbane
24 lifters competed in the event. Lev Susany (78.7kg) from UQPWC established a new national men's junior (under 23yr) raw benchpress record of 160kg. Lev has had a spectular year establishing 4 new raw powerlifting records in the men's junior 74kg weight class.

 

Mark Barham makes it to the Top 5
UQPWC club member Mark Barham is now ranked in the top 5 lifters in Australia (October 2011). Weighing in at 85.9kg, he totaled 737.5kg (squat+BP+deadlift) with 482.989 Wilks points
