A chalk-friendly gym, no lunk alarm here

The University of Qld Powerlifting and Weightlifting Club or UQPWC welcomes new members to its gym in St. Lucia. This is the oldest and longest running community-based powerlifting club in Australia. The club had its origin on the St Lucia campus in the current location of the cardio/treadmill/cycle studio. Back in the day, Olympic bars and bumper plates were locked up after each training session. It eventually moved to the “dungeon” on the lowest level under the current UQ Sport gym. After the introduction of Voluntary Student Unionism in 2006, university clubs such as UQPWC, were required to register as incorporated associations.

UQPWC is now located in Acacia Park, Carmody Road, St. Lucia a short walk from the University of Queensland.

Members typically train three days a week in the afternoons.
